You do not need to be an advanced programmer, but you should understand why version control exists and how teams use repositories to plan, review, protect, and ship work.

Create a disposable repository and complete this sequence before judging your readiness:
- Add a README, LICENSE, CONTRIBUTING guide, and SECURITY policy.
- Create a feature branch, make commits, open a pull request, and request a review.
- Link the pull request to an issue and observe what happens when it is merged.
- Configure notifications, labels, milestones, templates, and a small GitHub Project.
- Inspect branch protection, repository insights, dependency information, and access settings.
- Explain GitHub Flow in your own words without confusing it with Git itself.

Git versus GitHub
Git is the distributed version-control system; GitHub hosts repositories and adds collaboration, security, automation, and community capabilities.
Issues versus discussions
Issues usually track actionable work. Discussions are better for open-ended community conversation, questions, and ideas.
Fork versus branch
A branch is a line of work inside a repository; a fork is a separate copy under another account or organization.

After you can use repositories and collaboration features confidently, the AZ-400 DevOps practice test is a logical advanced resource for learning delivery pipelines, source-control strategy, security, and operational feedback. GH-900 is not listed as a formal AZ-400 prerequisite, but the GitHub foundation makes its workflow scenarios easier to understand.
