1. The four dimensions of ITIL 4

ITIL 4 is based on four dimensions:

• Service value chain: This dimension describes the end-to-end process of creating and delivering value to customers through IT services.
• Practices: This dimension defines the specific activities that organizations can perform to deliver value to customers.
• Capabilities: This dimension describes the underlying capabilities that organizations need to have in order to perform the practices.
• Principles: This dimension provides guidance on how to apply the practices and capabilities in a way that is consistent with ITIL 4's overall philosophy.

2. The five ITIL 4 principles

The five ITIL 4 principles are:

• Focus on value: Organizations should focus on creating and delivering value to their customers.
• Cooperation: Organizations should cooperate with each other to deliver value to customers.
• Continual improvement: Organizations should continuously improve their processes and capabilities in order to deliver better value to customers.
• Resilience: Organizations should be resilient to change and disruption in order to continue delivering value to customers.
• Ethics: Organizations should act ethically and responsibly in all their interactions with customers, partners, and each other.

3. The three ITIL 4 domains

ITIL 4 is organized into three domains:

• Service strategy: This domain defines the overall strategy for delivering IT services.
• Service design: This domain defines the specific design of IT services.
• Service operation: This domain defines the day-to-day operations of IT services.

4. The ITIL 4 lifecycle

The ITIL 4 lifecycle describes the phases that organizations go through as they develop, implement, and improve their IT service management processes.

• Plan: In the planning phase, organizations define their goals and objectives for their IT service management processes.
• Implement: In the implementation phase, organizations put their plans into action and start to develop and implement their IT service management processes.
• Operate: In the operations phase, organizations operate their IT service management processes on an ongoing basis.
• Monitor: In the monitoring phase, organizations monitor their IT service management processes to ensure that they are meeting their goals and objectives.
• Optimize: In the optimization phase, organizations optimize their IT service management processes to continuously improve their performance.

5. The ITIL 4 certification program

The ITIL 4 certification program is designed to help individuals demonstrate their knowledge and skills in IT service management. The program consists of four levels of certification:

• Foundation: The Foundation level is the entry-level certification and demonstrates a basic understanding of ITIL 4.
• Intermediate: The Intermediate level is designed for practitioners who have experience in implementing ITIL 4.
• Expert: The Expert level is designed for experienced practitioners who have a deep understanding of ITIL 4 and can apply it to complex situations.
• Master: The Master level is the highest level of certification and is designed for individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field of IT service management.
