Azure Administrator Preparation

AZ-104 Practice Test: Prove You Can Operate Azure

Test practical knowledge across identity, governance, storage, compute, networking, monitoring, and day-to-day Azure administration.

Start with a readiness diagnostic

AZ-104 is for administrators who implement, manage, and monitor Azure environments. Before using practice questions, ask whether you can perform common tasks with the Azure portal, PowerShell, Azure CLI, Microsoft Entra ID, and infrastructure templates such as ARM or Bicep. If you only recognize service names, you are not yet ready for scenario-heavy administration questions.

If cloud terminology is still new, begin with the AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals practice test. AZ-900 is not a formal prerequisite, but it supplies the vocabulary that AZ-104 expects you to apply.

Where the exam places its attention

Identity and governance20–25%
Storage15–20%
Compute20–25%
Virtual networking15–20%
Monitoring and maintenance10–15%
Passing score700

Five labs that reveal real gaps

  1. Governance lab: create management scopes, RBAC assignments, policies, tags, locks, budgets, and resource groups; then predict inheritance.
  2. Storage lab: configure access, redundancy, lifecycle management, soft delete, versioning, SAS, firewalls, and Azure Files.
  3. Compute lab: deploy and resize VMs, use availability options, configure App Service, containers, disks, and scale behavior.
  4. Networking lab: build VNets and subnets, apply NSGs, configure DNS, routing, peering, load balancing, and secure connectivity.
  5. Operations lab: collect logs and metrics, build alerts, use Network Watcher, configure backup, and test recovery decisions.

How to answer administrator scenarios

Locate the scope

Tenant, management group, subscription, resource group, resource, network, or object scope often determines the correct control.

Respect constraints

Look for least privilege, downtime, cost, region, resilience, identity, connectivity, and administrative-effort requirements.

Predict the result

Know what a command or configuration changes, which dependencies are required, and how to verify success.

A practical study loop

Take a short mixed practice set, classify each error by domain, reproduce the weak task in a lab, read the matching Microsoft Learn documentation, and retest after a delay. This loop is more useful than repeatedly memorizing the same answer order.
