Beginner Azure Certification

AZ-900 Practice Test: Build a Clear Azure Foundation

Learn the concepts behind cloud computing, Azure architecture and services, security, cost, governance, and management before moving into a technical role path.

What AZ-900 actually tests

AZ-900 is a knowledge exam, not an Azure administrator exam. It checks whether you can describe cloud concepts, recognize major Azure services, and explain management and governance choices. You should understand the purpose and trade-offs of a service without needing deep configuration experience.

Cloud concepts25–30%
Azure architecture and services35–40%
Management and governance30–35%

Concept pairs you must not confuse

IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS

Compare what the customer manages, what the provider manages, and which model best fits a business requirement.

Regions and availability zones

Know how geography, data residency, fault isolation, latency, and service availability affect architecture.

CapEx and OpEx

Understand consumption-based pricing, forecasting, elasticity, and why cloud spending still requires governance.

Authentication and authorization

Authentication proves identity; authorization determines permitted actions and resource scope.

Policy and RBAC

Azure Policy evaluates resource compliance; RBAC controls who can perform actions at a scope.

Resilience terms

Availability, scalability, elasticity, reliability, disaster recovery, and predictability describe different benefits.

A short preparation plan

  1. Learn the shared-responsibility model, cloud models, service models, and economic concepts.
  2. Map compute, networking, storage, database, identity, security, and monitoring services to simple use cases.
  3. Understand tenants, subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, resources, regions, and availability zones.
  4. Review cost tools, Azure Advisor, Service Health, Azure Monitor, Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Purview, Policy, locks, and tags.
  5. Use practice questions to explain why an answer fits; do not rely on recognizing a logo or keyword.

What comes after AZ-900?

Choose the next step by job role. If you want to operate Azure resources, continue with the AZ-104 Azure Administrator practice test. AZ-900 does not make you an administrator, but it creates a clean foundation for role-based learning.

Freshness matters: Microsoft updated the AZ-900 skills outline in July 2026. Always compare your study material with the latest official guide because Azure products and exam wording evolve.
