Pipeline questions are not only about YAML syntax. They cover architecture, agents, artifacts, environments, approvals, quality gates, secrets, deployment patterns, testing, package management, infrastructure automation, and recovery.
Follow one change from idea to production
- Plan: connect requirements, work items, feedback, metrics, documentation, and team communication.
- Code: choose repository structure, branching, pull-request policy, permissions, and large-file or dependency strategy.
- Build: select agents, cache dependencies, run tests and scans, version artifacts, and publish packages.
- Release: choose environments, approvals, checks, progressive exposure, deployment strategy, and rollback behavior.
- Secure: protect credentials, manage dependencies, scan code and containers, and enforce compliance.
- Observe: collect telemetry, define actionable alerts, measure flow and reliability, and feed learning back into planning.
Close prerequisite gaps before testing
If GitHub repositories and pull requests are new to you, review the GH-900 GitHub Foundations practice test. If Azure resource operations are the weak point, use the AZ-104 Azure Administrator practice test. Neither product replaces hands-on DevOps work, but both can expose foundation gaps that make AZ-400 scenarios harder.
A useful capstone lab

Protect the main branch, require review and status checks, link work items, and document the delivery process.

Build, test, scan, package, publish, deploy to stages, require approval, and support safe rollback.
Operations
Deploy infrastructure as code, keep secrets outside source, collect telemetry, and create meaningful alerts and dashboards.
Readiness test
